Ever since Nicolo Zaniolo broke onto the scene last season, the Italian wunderkind has attracted attention from the Premier League.

Arsenal and Manchester City kicked it all off, and while the pair have now disappeared from the transfer rumour columns altogether, Tottenham have stuck around, and are still here.

Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport have stories about Spurs’ desire to sign the 20-year-old, and they both agree on something: an offer has been made, and it involves a player being included.

The former don’t have exact figures, only revealing that Toby Alderweireld has been offered as part of the deal, but the latter seem to know a bit more: €15-18m + the Belgium international.

The centre-back only has one year left on his contract, which includes a £25m release clause for the entire summer, but he’s already stated he is happy to stay in London for the coming season.

However, it seems Tottenham have other plans, clearly uncomfortable at the idea of losing him on a free next year.

Unfortunately, while Roma do have an interest in the player, they would much rather deal with that separately to the Zaniolo affair, wanting either at least €50m (Gazzetta) or €60m (Corriere) before even contemplating negotiations.

The other issue would be the wages Alderweireld is on at Tottenham, which the Serie A side would find hard to match.

It’s a cheeky little attempt by Daniel Levy, if true, and you can’t blame him for giving it a go.
