On August 20th, French journalist Joris Crolbois made a surprise claim Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Pape Matar Sarr and he’s leaving FC Metz.

Since then, there have been various reports in France and England about the north London club wanting to sign the midfielder.

Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe has a short, but  important, update, stating the 18-year-old moves closer to Tottenham.

Having been tracked by several big Premier League sides, the newspaper states it’s Spurs who ‘could finally recruit’ the talented youngster.

It’s claimed officials from the English club were in a hotel in Metz on Wednesday to ‘complete the operation’ for the Senegalese.

The Ligue 1 side were hoping to cash in €30m for Pape Matar Sarr, but his sale would be for a sum ‘quite far from’ that figure.

L’Equipe state that while the two clubs ‘agree’, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are ‘yet to finalise the talks’ with the midfielder.

They further add Pape Matar Sarr should return to FC Metz on loan until the end of this season, if his transfer to Tottenham were to materialise.
