A month after the end of the January transfer window, we now get to see reports from Spain saying Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson had failed a medical with Southampton.

That’s today revealed by outlet Plaza Deportiva, who features a piece about the player returning to training following the muscle injury he had.

It’s claimed this physical issue is what stopped him from joining Southampton ‘a few weeks ago’.

The website says the transfer had been ‘agreed by all parties’, but his medical test was not ‘satisfactory’, and that blocked the move.

Jackson had indeed been linked to a Saints move in the January transfer window.

Back then, Spanish outlet AS said Villarreal were ‘close to certifying’ the player’s move to St. Mary’s following the €20m bid the Premier League side had submitted for him.

The Spanish media had no more updates on the situation back then, and that’s why it’s interesting to only now see something about this failed medical.

Jackson had also been linked to Bournemouth, and at the time, it was reported that his move to the Cherries collapsed because of his physical situation as well.
