Romelu Lukaku has struggled to shine at Chelsea and it has seen him linked to clubs including Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.
Back in April, Italian journalist Fabio Bergomi suggested the 29-year-old’s agent, Federico Pastorello, would prefer to take his client to Spurs rather than the Serie A side.
Later that month, La Repubblica reported the Chelsea striker could move to Tottenham this summer.
The Belgium international had a successful spell at Inter, playing under the current Spurs boss, Antonio Conte. The two parted ways with the Nerazzurri last summer, after helping them win the title.
Lukaku’s connection with Conte is why Tottenham Hotspur have been named as his suitor. For the past few days, claims in the Italian media have discussed the possibility of the player returning to the San Siro in the summer window.
Bergomi appeared as a guest on Calciomercato.it’s CMIT TV and provided an update on the Chelsea attacker’s future plans.
“I won’t be able to say everything because I can’t, but on Lukaku there is total convergence,” Bergomi said.
“The news has been silenced, he only wants Inter, he doesn’t want any other solution. I give you a total gem: he also rejected Conte’s Tottenham. He wants the Nerazzurri because he would be the leader.
“The formula that I learned today is that of the very high onerous loan, Chelsea want at least €20m of onerous loan. Inter want to get him for around €80/90m, paying €20m and postponing the rest over the years.
“What’s the problem? Not everyone knows that at Inter there is a great leader who is Dzeko. Or Dzeko has the maturity to understand to make way for Lukaku, otherwise there could be frictions.”
