Newcastle United have a ‘very strong’ interest to sign Atalanta’s Hans Hateboer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The 28-year-old missed three months of this campaign with a foot injury and featured for the first time in his side’s 4-0 win over Venezia FC on November 30th. Since then, he has made seven appearances in all competitions, which includes four starts.
Hateboer has less than 18 months left on his contract and the report states that ‘in the last few days’, he has asked to be sold in the winter market. Therefore, he is ‘towards the exit’ door.
On the Netherlands international, there is a ‘very strong’ interest of the Tyneside club. Therefore, he ‘could say goodbye’ to the Serie A side, five years after arriving in Bergamo.
Two days ago, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side registered a 6-2 win over Udinese and Hateboer came off the bench during that tie. TMW suggest the weekend clash could possibly be the Dutchman’s last appearance for Atalanta.
Hateboer primarily operates as a right-back, but can also be used as a right wing-back.
Eddie Howe’s side strengthened the same position by signing Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid. TMW state the arrival of the England international ‘can cool interest’ of Newcastle in the Atalanta player.
