On Tuesday, we covered a story from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo saying José Mourinho would be adding another scout to his staff at Manchester United.
The report claimed that it would be José Boto, a Benfica official, who would ‘very likely’ have the Red Devils as his next destination.
But it seems that the scout has denied such information, as reported by A Bola today.
The newspaper claims that in a comment on his Facebook page, Boto has referred to the Manchester United job as ‘just talk’.
But as O Jogo claimed that the switch to Manchester United will only be done in January, maybe Boto is just playing cool for now.
It’s no secret that Benfica do some great work finding unknown players, so the job done by Boto has had a big impact at the Lisbon side, both on the pitch and in the bank account.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if they try to hold onto him. Why let a scout go who can find players for pennies, and then sell to Manchester United, or elsewhere, for ten of millions several years down the line?
