Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne should be given an assistant manager role for Belgium at the World Cup, to take advantage of his time under Pep Guardiola.
That’s according to Gazete van Antwerpen analyst Dave Peters, who believes Belgium are missing a trick and not utilising De Bruyne enough.
The Manchester City star will be the key player for Belgium at the World Cup over the next few weeks, where Belgium are expected to go far.
He heads to the tournament in Qatar in good form, having managed 13 assists and three goals in 19 games in all competitions for Manchester City so far.
His influence on the Red Devils is undeniable but Peters believes he should be given even more power by Roberto Martinez and his team in a ‘player-assistant’ role.
“I think Kevin De Bruyne should be able to decide the line-up together with the national coach,” Voetbal Krant report him saying.
“He is by far our very best player and holds the key. And he gets tactical guidance at Manchester City from Pep Guardiola, the best coach in the world.”
