Earlier today we covered claims from the Catalan media that Barcelona were growing increasingly frustrated with Manchester City over Eric Garcia.
The Premier League club were said to be asking for €20m as a fixed fee and more in bonuses, and this was considered completely out of reality for Barcelona. Sources at the club thought paying that fee for Garcia, given his contract expires in June, would be outrageous.
So instead they’d sign him on a free next summer, and get in a low cost option now to see them through the current season.
El Chiringuito now believe there’s been a major development, and Garcia is set to move to Barcelona in this window. It’s claimed the transfer has been ‘closed’ for €18m, less than it was stated Manchester City wanted, but also more than it was believed Barcelona initially planned to pay for the defender.
The development could be related to City’s own efforts to sign a centre back.
