Manchester City’s interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria is nothing new, with them interested ‘for some time’.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say despite not being able to build on his impressive displays last season, his ‘potential has probably been underlined’.
Zakaria has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with it reported last month that City had a good chance of getting their man.
This followed on from a year of reports about Manchester City’s interest in the midfielder, with it reported back in December that they had ‘moved into position’ to try and make a deal happen.
That was a continuation of reports from the summer and even before then when it was regularly claimed City were keen on a move.
Those have been picked up again ahead of the summer, particularly as Manchester City are looking like they could be on the hunt for a replacement for Fernandinho.
Fussball Transfers cover those rumours today and state that according to their information, Pep Guardiola and City have been ‘interested’ in Zakaria ‘for some time’.
While he’s not been able to build on his strong performances from last season, his ‘potential’ has ‘probably been underlined’ by those in charge at the Etihad.
In fact, Guardiola was even able to ‘get an idea’ of the player when the two sides met in the Champions League last sixteen.
Whether he saw enough to convince him to make a move remains to be seen, but it seems the interest is there nonetheless and has been for some time.
