Fotospor claim Besiktas had a deal in place for Stoke City midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo but their new manager Sergen Yalcin refused to complete it.
Etebo joined Getafe on loan deal until the end of the season during the early stages of the last transfer window, and Fotospor say he would have signed for Besiktas if the Super Lig club’s former manager Abdullah Avci was still in charge.
Yalcin was presented with an opportunity to sign the Nigerian midfielder but he refused it because he thought the 24 year old wouldn’t be able to get in the team ahead of the likes of Atiba Hutchinson and Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny.
Etebo joined Stoke City from Portuguese side CD Feirense for €7.2m in 2018 and failed to make an impact during his time with the Potters.
This season he’s played just 11 Championship games, but he’ll be looking to get his career back on track with La Liga’s surprise package Getafe.
His contract with Stoke City will expire at the end of June 2023.
