Earlier this week, Sport1 reported that Manchester City have made the ‘best offer’ for Erling Haaland, but the operation to sign the Borussia Dortmund star is not a ‘done deal’ yet due to ‘various reasons’.
The striker’s injury record since joining the German club was cited as one of the reasons. He missed 29 matches so far, out of which 17 have come from this season. In addition to this, the attacker has been sidelined for close to 100 days in the current term.
Sky Deutschland’s BVB reported Jesco von Eichmann, however, has dismissed the idea that the Norway international’s injury concern will be an issue for either Manchester City or Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old suffered a setback during March’s international break and is still out on the sidelines. He has not found the back of the net for Marcos Rose’s side since opening the scoring against TSG Hoffenheim in January.
Eichmann claims the Bundesliga side need the frontman and his goals. In addition to this, Dortmund also need clarity over his future. The journalist further adds Haaland’s current situation/injury record won’t put off suitors like Manchester City or Real Madrid from signing the player in the summer.
“I don’t think a club will back down from a signing just because they’ve been injured a couple of times. If Manchester City or Real Madrid were deterred, they would already be. They don’t look at him any differently now because of the ankle injury. They will register that with certainty, but nothing more,” Eichmann said.
Only time will tell whether or not Haaland’s issues with injury would have any bearing on the likes of Pep Guardiola’s side or Los Blancos from investing big to acquire his services.
