Liverpool were willing to pay €100m to sign Fede Valverde from Real Madrid this summer but were told a deal would not be happening by the player.
That’s according to Bernabeu Digital, who cover the Reds apparent interest in the midfielder in an exclusive today.
Valverde recently renewed with Real Madrid until 2027, having wanted to extend his deal at the Bernabeu for another two years to protect his future there.
Madrid were happy to give it to him as they consider him a ‘real diamond in the rough’, but Liverpool ‘tried to thwart’ their efforts.
According to BD’s information, the Premier League side ‘considered’ a €100m offer to sign Valverde this summer.
However, no such offer ever arrived at the club as the midfielder’s agent made it clear that El Pajarito’s intention was to renew with Madrid and continue his rise at the club.
That ended any chance of a move from Liverpool, although we find it difficult to believe they were ready to offer any such figure anyway.
For a start, they simply don’t have the money to do so and would have only had it if they were selling a major star this summer, which has never been close to happening.
Furthermore, it’s a huge figure for a player who, while undoubtedly talented, is not worth anywhere near that, something Liverpool’s very adept transfer team will be more than aware of.
We suspect there’s a little bit of Real Madrid gamesmanship going on instead in an attempt to present this renewal as far better and vital for the club, and thus extremely good news, than most probably thought it was.
