According to a claim in the Italian media, former England manager Sam Allardyce is in pole position to replace Tony Pulis at West Bromwich Albion.
Pulis was today dismissed by the Premier League side after a poor start to the season.
TMW have reported Allardyce is the preferred choice for West Brom as they look to bring in a replacement for Pulis as soon as possible. Allardyce is currently out of work after resigning from the Crystal Palace manager’s job at the end of last season.
The 63 year old helped Crystal Palace avoid the drop to the Championship last season, and it’s hoped he could do likewise with West Brom.
The Baggies dropped to 17th in the Premier League table following their crushing 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, and are said to be hoping they can convince Allardyce to come out of retirement.
However, West Brom fans should be sceptical about TMW’s claim as it isn’t the first time they’ve reported on Premier League managerial changes in recent weeks.
The football outlet last month ran surprising exclusives on the Everton and West Ham United manager jobs, and it’s unlikely they’ll have any inside knowledge, unless it was an Italian coach being linked to these roles.
On that note, don’t be surprised to soon see a TMW ‘esclusiva’ linking Walter Mazzarri to the job. We’re not jesting.
