The biggest story in the Portuguese rumour mill in the past couple of days has been about Liverpool’s chase for Porto star Luis Diaz, as the Reds seem focused on landing the winger in the January window.
Now it turns out that when reading the local media today, we get to find new claims about Tottenham Hotspur, who apparently made a move to sign the 24-year-old as well.
As covered by newspaper O Jogo, it was said on Thursday at SIC Notícias TV that Spurs made a €60m offer for Diaz.
The bid, however, was ‘refused’, as Porto are only likely to let him leave for something closer to his release clause, which stands at €80m.
The claims made by SIC are also covered by Goal Point on Twitter. They add that according to the outlet, this was the ‘only formal offer’ received by Porto for the player so far.
Diaz has 14 goals and five assists for Porto this season, having also been the top scorer in Copa America playing for Colombia last summer, and the Portuguese media is pretty sure that he’ll be moving to the Premier League soon.
Now even though Liverpool seemed like the front-runners in the race, the claims of Tottenham’s bid certainly make the competition a lot more interesting.
