Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth has emerged as a transfer target for İstanbul Başakşehir, according to claims coming out of Turkey.

Asist Analiz have brought a short update on Twitter, provided by their journalist İlhan Tüysüz, which claims the Süper Lig side are ‘about to add’ the Magpies right-back to their squad.

That’s the only information Asist Analiz provide about İstanbul Başakşehir’s attempt to sign the 26-year-old.

Krafth has a contract with the Tyneside club until 2023 and there’s no clarity if the Turkish side are looking to take the Sweden international a loan deal or permanent transfer.

Steve Bruce has largely used the defender in the cup competitions and handed him five more appearances in the league. He made his first league appearance in over a month in Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on Monday.

İstanbul Başakşehir currently have Rafael as the only experienced right-back in the squad after Júnior Caiçara suffered a serious injury in October. Caiçara is not expected to return until May, meaning he will miss most of the rest this season.

Muhammed Sarikaya has been promoted to the first team, but he has not featured in the Süper Lig this season.

Krafth’s potential arrival at İstanbul Başakşehir in the winter market could see him battle with Rafael for a place in the starting lineup.
