Andreas Christensen has less than six months left on his contract at Chelsea and the two parties have not found an agreement over a new deal, allowing the defender to attract interest from other clubs.
For the past few weeks or so, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been named as the 25-year-old’s two main suitors.
Three days ago, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenburg stated the aforementioned two clubs are battling it out for the centre-back’s signature and he could take a decision on his future next week.
Another journalist Gerard Romero, relayed by Sport, provides the latest information that brings Thomas Tuchel’s man closer to the Catalan club. He claims the Blues player will be Barca’s first signing of the 2022/23 season.
According to Romero, the Denmark international would have ‘already passed the medical examination’ prior to sealing a switch to the Camp Nou.
This took place on Monday and a day later, Barca officials Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cryuff travelled to London to hold talks with the Chelsea star, to ‘advance the contract’.
The journalist further claims the deal ‘could be finalised next week’, when the defender’s agent will visit Barcelona.
Christensen has ‘already informed’ Chelsea his decision to not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge and has been negotiating with Barcelona ‘for weeks’.
Xavi Hernández likes him and the latter would have preferred the Blaugrana over other important clubs like Bayern. The Dane could sign a five-year deal with Barcelona, which includes a salary of €6m per season.
