Over the past few days, there have been rumours that Chelsea are looking at André Onana to solve their goalkeeper issues, with the latest coming from Marco Barzaghi, relayed by Io Tifo Inter.
Once believed to be put behind them when Edouard Mendy took over from Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Stamford Bridge goal, they have since reappeared.
Graham Potter appears to prefer the Spaniard to the Senegal international, but neither have fully convinced this season, and that’s why Onana, currently at Inter, is in the transfer rumour mill as a Chelsea target.
We’ve previously covered a couple of stories about the interest from the Blues, but it appears they have since made an offer for the 26-year-old.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset journalist Marco Barzaghi, who made a claim on his YouTube channel about a bid.
He said: “After Onana’s convincing performances, according to English sources, Chelsea strongly targeting the Nerazzurri goalkeeper, and to convince the management of the beloved player, they would have made a crazy offer: Mendy + €40m in compensation.”
Now, we’ve checked, and we can’t see anywhere in England claiming this bid, suggesting the journalist may have consulted his own English sources for this.
In a rather disappointing season for Inter as a whole, Onana has been one of the shining lights, conceding a total of 23 goals in 28 appearances for the Italian side, keeping 14 clean sheets along the way, which is exactly why Chelsea will be taking an interest in him.
