Pushing to sign Jeremy Toljan from Borussia Dortmund, and looking extremely likely to do so, Celtic are scrambling around Europe for a new right-back.

Expected to arrive on a loan with a view to buy in the summer, the young defender was reported as potentially sealing a move to Parkhead in the ‘coming hours’.

However, he wasn’t at the top of their list, as that appeared to be Timothy Castagne.

Brendan Rodgers’ interest in the Belgian was well reported earlier on in the window before Swansea got involved, but Atalanta’s reluctance to let their man go for cheap scuppered any deal.

That didn’t stop Celtic making one last attempt, as Calciomercato.it claim on Wednesday the Serie A side rejected yet another offer for the right-back from the Scottish Premiership champions.

The reason behind Atalanta’s decision was the amount offered being ‘too low’ and Gian Piero Gasperini’s team would have too little time to find an adequate replacement this late in the window.

They state any discussions could be delayed until next summer, but if Toljan impresses, there might not be a need.
