One of Russian football’s most interesting figures, Yuri Belous has claimed Cardiff City wanted to sign Zenit At Peterburg’s Artem Dzyuba in the final days of the last transfer window.

The Premier League club were linked with several forwards in the last week of the winter market, but in the end nobody was brought to the Cardiff City stadium.

Speaking to Match TV, Beloun talked about Cardiff City’s approach for the Russian striker before the transfer deadline last Thursday, as covered by Championat:

“An agent from England came to me and asked about Artem Dzyuba. Cardiff were considering him. I spoke with Artem and he was ready to go to Premier League. But it was always unlikely because Zenit wouldn’t let him to leave before finding a replacement. Yes, Cardiff could offer €25m but money is not an issue for Zenit.”

Last week we covered reports from Turkey that Cardiff City also tried to bring in Marseille forward Kostas Mitroglou as Neil Warnock looked to bolster his attacking options.

However, the Greek international instead signed for Galatasaray on an 18 month loan deal due to having family living in Istanbul.
