Back in August, Celtic were trying to qualify for the Champions League, and weren’t far off doing so, were it not for CFR Cluj standing in their way.

Drawing the first leg at home, Neil Lennon’s men travelled to Romania for the return fixture, only for Billel Omrani to almost single handedly tear them apart.

The former France U19 international scored two goals and helped out with an assist in his side’s 4-3 win over Celtic (which led to this transfer rumour), and now has 13 goals and four assists in 31 games, which has caught the eye of Brighton & Hove Albion.

This is according to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who reports on Monday that Cluj have received a bid from the Seagulls for the left-footed forward, who can play both on the wings or through the middle as a striker.

The Premier League side, who have been in need of some more goals, have allegedly put forward €3.5m for the 26-year-old, which falls in line with what Celtic reportedly bid in the summer, when GSP claimed the Scottish Premiership champions were ‘extremely close’ to tying up a deal.

That never materialised, and Omrani stayed in Romania, but it now seems he could have another opportunity to leave, this time for the AMEX Stadium to play under Graham Potter.

There’s no indication as to whether the bid will be accepted or not, but we’d expect Cluj to perhaps ask for a bit more, just because the player is important to them and it’s midway through the season.

We’ll have to wait and see…
