Chelsea have identified Flamengo’s Matheus Gonçalves as a transfer target, according to a report from Brazil.
The 18-year-old is a product of the Brazilian club’s youth system and was promoted to their first team in 2022. He was on loan at Red Bull Bragantino in the second half of the last year and has returned to Flamengo, where he’s made two appearances in 2024.
Bolvaip claim the winger is considered ‘one of the greatest promises’ in Brazil and is also being monitored closely by Chelsea.
Their title claims Chelsea owner Todd Boehly ‘approves a million-dollar deal’ with Flamengo, but there isn’t anything within the report to back it up. It’s only explained that the Blues have been following the youngster for some time.
The attacker’s current deal lasts until December 2025 and the report states it includes a €100m release clause.
It’s claimed Gonçalves, for his part, dreams of making a switch to Europe. The outlet adds the Brazilian club are ‘willing to do business’, depending on the offers they’ll receive.
This would indicate Flamengo are open to negotiating a deal for Gonçalves, for a fee less than his clause.
