Before we cover the links between Arsenal and manager Jorge Jesus, we better explain why the news is coming from Brazil instead of being reported by the English or Portuguese media.

Between the summers of 2019 and 2020, the manager had a very successful time at Flamengo, where he won the league and the Copa Libertadores. Then he decided to move to Benfica, where he’s still in charge.

The Brazilian club have had a few coaches since then and things didn’t work out with any of them. So there’s a little obsession for them to have Jorge Jesus back, and that’s why the Rio de Janeiro media follows all of his steps, including his results with the Lisbon side.

So website Torcedores now features a piece about the 67-year-old’s future, claiming that he’s had an approach from Arsenal. It’s said the Gunners wanted to know the possibility of him taking charge of the club in the summer, as Arteta could be shown the door if results aren’t pleasing.

The outlet claims Jesus sees the possibility ‘with good eyes’, as he’s never hidden his wish of working in a top league. His contract with Benfica expires at the end of the season, and it’s said there’s no backing from the Eagles’ fans for his stay, with president Rui Costa ‘pressed’ not to renew the deal.

Torcedores adds that Jesus was indicated to Arsenal by agents Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian. It’s said they’ve been trying to place him in the English market since he left Flamengo in 2020.

Even though it’s still hard to tell how reliable this report is, the representatives’ strong connections with Edu Gaspar is certainly something which makes those claims reasonable.
