Sabah journalist Ugur Karakullukcu has claimed Galatasaray were close to signing Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck during last summer transfer window.
The Istanbul club were linked with the Arsenal man towards the end of the window as they looked to bring in a forward before the deadline.
Karakullukcu, who has close ties with Galatasaray, claims the Turkish club’s board convinced their manager Fatih Terim to sell Bafetimbi Gomis because they informed him they’d agreed a deal with Arsenal to loan Welbeck.
However, the deal to bring the Arsenal player to Turkey collapsed at the last minute, even though Gala had already sold Gomis to Al-Hilal.
The Super Lig club have now made it their priority to sign a forward in the next transfer window, with the likes of Oumar Niasse and Shinji Okazaki linked in recent weeks.
Galatasaray will need to drop their interest in Welbeck if they had any intention to get a deal done in the new year, due to the England international picking up a serious ankle injury earlier this month.
