Celtic’s Alistair Johnston has been the first choice right-back for Brendan Rodgers and has impressed this season.

The Canada international has contributed 13 goals [four goals and nine assists] from 39 matches so far. His performances for Celtic haven’t gone unnoticed and he’s ended up on Inter Milan’s agenda for the summer window.

That’s according to InterLive.it, who state the Celtic player is the ‘surprise name’ on the Serie A club’s list.

Simone Inzaghi has Denzel Dumfries and 35-year-old Matteo Darmian as two right wing-backs at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri are looking for a successor for the Italian to provide cover and competition to Dumfries. This is where Johnston comes into the picture, and he’s done well since arriving at Celtic Park in January 2023.

Johnston’s characteristics and ability to contribute while attacking seem to have pleased the Serie A winners.

Last November, the Scottish champions extended his contract until 2029. Despite this, the report states his price tag should be less than €10m and the 26-year-old’s salary should not be high.

In other words, the operation shouldn’t be expensive, and this could make it attractive for Inter to sign Johnston in the next window.

As is often the case in Italy, there’s every chance the media around Inter Milan have underestimated the fee needed.
