Earlier this week, we’ve covered reports from Brazil saying the City Group are lining up a partnership with Fluminense.
Following the deal Manchester City have for 17-year-old striker Kayky, the talks are on for a longer relationship where players and coaches should get interchanges between the clubs.
Now it seems Fluminense aren’t the only South American club that are about to have a new partnership with the City Group. According to reports from Colombia, there have been talks with Atletico Nacional as well.
Journalist Antonio Casale came up with some details on ESPN this week. He claims the deal could turn into a takeover bid in the future.
“The agreement they reached is that, for now, they are going to work within the framework of an alliance. Players will come and go, possibly; there will be training tours for professional teams and minor divisions; talents from the administrative and sports side will come and go in all their aspects,” he said (via Infobae).
“Regarding a potential purchase, the only thing that has been decided is that initially they will work in an alliance, with an open possibility of negotiating a share package in two years.”
As usual, Infobae says on their headline this is a partnership between ‘Atletico Nacional and Manchester City’, although the story makes it clear it’s the City Group.
Reporter Andrea Guerrero added that the City Group would first acquire 15% of the Colombian side, with future plans to get 45%.
Manchester City made a deal with Atletico Nacional back in 2016, when signing Marlos Moreno on a €5.5m deal.
The winger, however, has never had any chances to play for the Premier League side, even though he still has a deal with the club running until 2023.
In case the news is confirmed, this would be the fourth South American club to have a relationship with the City Group.
Besides the ownership over Montevideo City Torque, there could also be the partnerships with Allianza Lima, Fluminense and Atletico Nacional.
