When Wesley Hoedt signed for Lazio during the last market, initially on loan from Southampton, there were some in Rome who weren’t entirely happy with the situation.
Annoyed at how he’d previously left the club for his big move to the Premier League, fans and media alike didn’t feel Hoedt had shown enough to justify being forgiven for his failings.
Well, Lazio seems to suit the player just perfectly and he’s set about trying to change the minds of those who doubt him.
On December 5th, we covered claims from Italy which stated Lazio were ‘pondering’ the idea of using their €5m purchase clause early, with Hoedt impressing everyone at the Serie A club.
That theme continues, with Enrico De Lellis, a journalist specialising in Lazio, saying an appointment has already been set with Southampton ‘before Christmas’ to agree all the details of the transfer.
Given they’re ready to use the clause early, it would be no surprise if Lazio are looking for Southampton to give them some kind of discount.
