Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar will not be joining Switzerland’s national team during the international break, according to reports.
Outlet RTN writes that due to ‘recurring foot pain’, the 31-year-old has ‘chosen to stay in Newcastle’ to treat his problem and stay fit for the rest of the season.
Schar played for the 90 minutes in the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, so it indeed looks more like a precaution he’s taking to avoid that issue from getting worse.
Newcastle, who continue strong in their chase for a place in the Champions League next season, still have one match left before the break, as they play Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Friday.
Their return to Premier League action will take place on the 2nd of April, as they play Manchester United at St. James’ Park in what could be a decisive match for the top four standings at the end of the season.
Switzerland have two friendlies scheduled for this international break. They’re first facing Belorussia on the 25th of March, and then Israel three days later.
