Benfica’s Paulo Bernardo was on loan at Celtic last season and there’s a possibility that he could return to Brendan Rodgers’ side this summer.
Earlier this month, Record reported the midfielder has been waiting for Celtic to agree a deal with the Eagles.
Five days ago, we covered claims from Portugal that Celtic are in talks with Benfica for the 22-year-old. It was also said they would like to offer €5m, after deciding not to exercise the €7.5m purchase option.
Within the report, it’s explained that Benfica manager Roger Schmidt has decided to leave him out of the pre-season squad. This is one of the main reasons why the Portuguese club are trying to push him back to Celtic.
The conditions are available for Celtic to take advantage to try and sign the midfielder on a favourable deal.
Bernardo clocked in less than 1,500 minutes from 33 games for Celtic last season.
