At the end of last month, Celtic confirmed the signing of Christopher Jullien from French club Toulouse, for a reported fee of £7m.

He signed a four-year deal with the Scottish Premiership champions and in the process, became their second most expensive signing behind Odsonne Édouard.

Having joined the Ligue 1 side in 2016, the centre-back has been a regular inclusion for his former club in the past three seasons, making 99 starts in the league during that period.

He’s given an interview to French publication L’Equipe and Jullien was asked if he feels he’s stalled a little in recent years.

“No, I do not think so. Each test is a stage. What I lived in Toulouse will make me progress. But it was a good time to leave,” he explained.

“At my age (26 years), for my progression, in a desire to reach my peak, I had to see something else [new club]. With the prospect of winning trophies.”

L’Equipe further questioned the player about his decision to join Celtic.

Jullien said, “It’s a step up. The choice was simple. It’s a mythical club, with an incredible atmosphere. They play in the Champions League and a league reminiscent of the Premier League.”

He also spoke about his status as a big signing.

“(Laughs) I knew I would have recognition right away. It will be up to me to live up to these expectations. It is a beautiful challenge,” the Frenchman concluded.
