Sunday night saw a very important game take place in Ligue 1, one that could be a decider between who ends up playing Champions League football next season.

Lyon welcomed Marseille, and the home side eventually walked away with the three points through a 2-0 win, leaving them joint second with Monaco in Ligue 1.

The game was an important one for a player in particular, as ex-Tottenham winger Clinton N’Jié could have potentially ended up facing his former teammates, but he didn’t, with Rudi Garcia leaving him on the bench for the whole 90 minutes.

Ahead of the game, the 24-year-old was interview by Lyon’s website about his return, and was asked if he felt like he’d left them for Spurs too soon, considering how little he played for the Premier League team during his brief stay in England.

He said: “I don’t regret it. It’s a choice I needed to make. The club was OK with it. Everyone thought it was a good solution. I acquired a lot of experience during that adventure at Tottenham. It really helped me afterwards, and it still does. Therefore, I have no regrets”.

During his stay at (then) White Hart Lane, N’Jié only made 14 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino, picking up just one assist in a 13 minute cameo against Manchester City.

A year after his arrival, the forward was then loaned to Marseille, with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou going the other way, a player who is currently suffering a similar fate to the Cameroon international at Wembley, totalling 135 minutes of football this season.
