Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is set to be rested during the Premier League match against Swansea City, according to reports from Chile.
Terra claims that Arsene Wenger is minded to leave the striker out of action after the big sequence of games he’s been playing.
Sanchez missed only one match this season, which was the EFL Cup away tie against Nottingham Forest. He’s played nine games for Arsenal and four others for Chile since returning from summer vacations.
The player landed in London today having played 90 minutes against Peru last night. Therefore, he would only have the chance to train once before Saturday’s clash.
Arsenal will play seven matches in the next three weeks, being four in the Premier League, two in the Champions League and one in the EFL Cup. That’s why there won’t be many other dates for him to be rested.
Sanchez’s international duty for Chile wasn’t very good. After losing 3-0 to Colombia, they’ve beat Peru 2-1 and are now in seventh place of the World Cup Qualifiers’ table. Only four teams get a straight spot, and the fifth goes to the playoff stage.
There’s every possibility Terra may be reporting this out of hope, with that turning into expectation. Chile face Colombia and Uruguay in November, in what are absolutely crucial matches for their World Cup hopes, and they don’t won’t Sanchez to be too worn out.
