Signed towards the back end of the transfer window, Diogo Jota has already started to show exactly why Liverpool spent £40.2m on him in September.
Already adapted to the Premier LEague thanks to his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Portuguese winger didn’t take long to settle into Jürgen Klopp’s plans, and the 23-year-old already has three goals to his name in his first five league games for the Reds.
Add to that a goal against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League, and Jota is well on his way to becoming a Liverpool favourite in the future.
Even if he doubled his wages, it was never a move made for money, as transferring to Anfield was simply the next step in a career seemingly going in the perfect trajectory.
In fact, Rick, an old friend of his, spoke to A Bola on Monday and explained exactly what the move to Liverpool meant to Jota.
He said: “For the group of friends, I speak of those who are in permanent contact with him, Liverpool was the greatest happiness of life. It was something I didn’t expect and it happened very quickly. He was impressed by Klopp, who immediately came to him laughing, in a good mood, very helpful, talking a lot and assuming him that he would give him many opportunities.”
Rick, who has known Jota since they were nine or 10, is simply lost for words for what is going in his friend’s life, but he couldn’t be happier for him.
He added: “It’s inexplicable to say everything I feel. It’s a pride for him to have arrived where he arrived and to have achieved what he’s achieved. To arrive at Liverpool and score on your debut, to play like he played. Speechless! Of course he is very happy”.
