For the last two days, Manchester City’s interest in Sergio Roberto has been discussed in the Catalan media.
It was also reported that Txiki Begiristain has initiated contacts with Barcelona for the 28-year-old’s signing.
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing for the back page of Mundo Deportivo, brings the latest update.
He claims Barca CEO Òscar Grau received ‘reliable news’ from Manchester, notifying him of the Premier League winners’ interest in the Spaniard.
Rico adds City are in a ‘tremendous mess’ as they cannot find a solution for João Cancelo. The Portuguese right-back, who initially wanted to leave, has now decide to continue at the Etihad and Begiristain has also ‘let him stay’.
The English club’s immediate focus will be on the fixtures on the pitch (once football resumes) and mainly on the Champions League.
Once the season is completed, they will discuss the market, and that’s when the case related to Cancelo and Roberto will be reopened.
Mundo reported on Thursday the versatile player will only leave the La Liga winners to play under Pep Guardiola.
Rico, however, stressed that Roberto will not take the first step to leave Camp Nou and would ‘only value’ changing clubs, if Barca decide to make him available in the market.
