Mikel Arteta left Matteo Guendouzi out of his plans at Arsenal and that saw him spend last season on loan at Hertha Berlin.
The Gunners then allowed the 22-year-old to join Marseille on a loan deal last summer and as part of the agreement, the Ligue 1 side retain an option to buy him after this season.
The Arsenal owned player impressed for the French club under Jorge Sampaoli’s orders and his fine displays this campaign helped him debut for France last November.
Marseille are convinced to retain the midfielder at the club beyond this season and plan to exercise the buying option in the summer.
Pablo Longoria and Guendouzi were guests on RMC Sport’s Rothen s’enflamme, where the Marseille president ‘confirms the automatic signing’ of the France international at the end of the season. The latter will sign a contract with the Ligue 1 side until 2025.
Guendouzi also gave an insight into his decision to join Marseille on a loan deal in 2021.
“It was a carefully considered choice. There were very good discussions with the president, with the coach and people in my family. We really made the best decision all together. For me, it’s the best choice I’ve made in many years,” he told RMC.
“President Longoria and coach Sampaoli are the people who introduced me to the project and made me want to come. We talked about Marseille’s project, what I could bring to the team, how I was going to grow.”
“I found myself in this speech, I knew that when I came here, I was going to cross levels and continue to grow, whether it was humanly or football wise.”
