Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta remains hopeful his side can close a deal for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in the coming days.
Having left the San Siro for the Blues last summer, the 29-year-old endured a difficult campaign under Thomas Tuchel’s orders. This has convinced him to leave Chelsea and return to the San Siro.
The two clubs are working on the Belgium international’s loan and Marotta has revealed the move will be formalised soon.
“Opinion on the Lukaku operation? First of all, I want to thank the work done by Ausilio and Baccin, together we have done many surveys,” the Nerazzurri chief was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.
“We are in the phase in which we have to summarise and we must try to formalise what will be new operations. These are operational days and in a short time we will certainly arrive at different conclusions.
“We are working on Lukaku, with Ausilio and Baccin, we must thank the availability of the president and the owners, to go forward: I hope we can conclude, not in a few hours, but in a few days.”
On the topic of the Chelsea player, Marotta continued: “We are working hard to set up a competitive team, Inter are a great club with a record full of successes and with many trophies won.”
“We have millions and millions of fans and I think they really deserve a team that can live up to this: regardless of the difficulties that may exist, the football manager must never be afraid to keep the bar very high. You have to have the courage to try all the ways to then get the most out of it.
“Among these there are very important objectives, perhaps we have achieved one: we cannot formalise it yet, it will be a matter of hours or rather a few days.”
“And it is a goal that certainly flatters us a lot, it is the return of a player who has done very well with us and we would be very happy to be able to bring him back home.”
With the Italian club’s chief confirming Lukaku’s move is near completion, FcInterNews now details what is pending to conclude the operation.
They state Simone Inzaghi’s side have ‘practically completed everything’ to bring Lukaku back to the club.
Inter lawyer Angelo Capellini has already exchanged documents related to Lukaku’s deal with the Premier League side’s lawyers. This also includes a dossier for the player’s medical tests on Wednesday, the last step before signing the contract.
