Spanish outlet AS today reports that Real Madrid have just closed ‘one of the most ambitious operations in the past few years’ at their academy. That’s the contract renewal of Alex Jimenez, a 16-year-old fullback.
The reason a deal with the teenager is so important is the chase he’s been drawing from a couple of European sides, with Chelsea included.
AS claims that the Blues, along with Bayern Munich, had a ‘strong interest’ in Jimenez, which should now be backed off following his contract renewal.
It’s said Real Madrid had been negotiating the youngster’s renewal for a long time, and now managed to give him a deal until 2027. He had been playing two age levels above his bracket, and next season is expected to join Real Castilla.
The report says the Galacticos now ‘closed doors’ to the interested clubs, mentioning Chelsea as the current Champions of Europe, who shall now have to wait a little until thinking of going for the fullback again.
