As we entered the last 14 days of the summer window on Tuesday, reports from Spain stated Jules Koundé’s release clause has been raised from €80m to €90m [due to it being the last two weeks of the window]

Chelsea have been regularly pushed forward as a contender and Sevilla suspected the Blues would make ‘one last attempt’ to sign the defender for around €65-70m.

On Thursday, Estadio Deportivo suggested the 22-year-old could continue with the La Liga side for one more season, even though he has an agreement with the Champions League winners.

AS on Friday claim the France international’s move to Chelsea ‘continues to cool’ due to economic and sporting reasons.

The Blues’ interest in the centre-back is ‘real’, but they tried to sign him for a lower fee by including some of their players as part of the operation.

This formula wasn’t accepted by the Spanish club and they were not ready to let Koundé leave for a lower fee, after the fine season he had last term.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel was delighted with Trevoh Chalobah’s displays in the UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal and the league victory against Crystal Palace.

Chalobah’s emergence has to an extent has ‘paralysed’ Koundé’s possibility of ending up at the west London club. This, and Chelsea being ‘reluctant’ to meet the high demands made by Sevilla [likely to be around €65-70m], could see the player continue with Julen Lopetegui’s side.
