Despite calling himself the ‘best player in the world’ at this current time, Eden Hazard doesn’t believe he deserves to win any personal awards this season.

Speaking to RTBF, relayed by Ouest-France, on Friday, the Chelsea star was asked what he thought about the upcoming Ballon d’Or award, and whether or not he felt he had a chance of winning it ahead of prestigious competition such as Antoine Griezmann and Raphaël Varane.

He said: “Even if I have played very well this year, I’m not getting carried away. I don’t deserve the Ballon d’Or. I think there are players who have been better than me.”

Who, we hear you ask.

He elaborated: “I would have said Luka Modric, but he’s not playing all that well since August-September, so if you take the beginning of the season into account, I would say… Kylian Mbappé.”

So far this season Eden Hazard has been one of the best players in the Premier League, finding a new lease of life under Maurizio Sarri, and has scored eight goals in 14 appearances as well as four assists.

Compare that to Kylian Mbappé, who, since lifting the World Cup with France over the summer, has bagged himself 13 goals in 13 games and also provided the final pass seven times for his teammates.

Maybe he’s right, and the 19-year-old, who will be 20 when the winner of the award is announced, does deserve it.

Then again, Griezmann might have something to say about that. He always seems to.
