Italian website Tutto Mercato Web is today recalling several stories from the January transfer window. One of them is about Chelsea’s attempt to sign Nicolo Barella from Cagliari.

The website claims that the Blues had made a pretty good offer, with a ‘dizzying’ bid of €50m for the transfer plus a salary of €5m per season.

It’s said that Cagliari accepted the offer, but Barella didn’t.

That’s because he knows there’s some big interest in him coming from Italian sides, and the preference is for him and his family to stay in the country.

Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus are all pointed out as potential destinations, although it’s unlikely that they would match the Blues’ offer for the midfielder.

Now in case Chelsea go back for him in the summer, they better hope Tutto Mercato Web is right, and the offer won’t be matched, so the clubs won’t get in the player’s head.

Chelsea will also need to hope Barella would look more kindly on a summer move to England, which some reports have suggested could be the case.
