You won’t be surprised to hear that Paris Saint-Germain want Thibaut Courtois, considering both the fact it’s been reported before and their current goalkeeping situation.

It’s not that Alphone Aréola and Kevin Trapp aren’t good goalkeepers, they’re just not world class (yet).

That’s why signing a new shot stopper is high on the Ligue 1 side’s list of priorities this summer, but getting the Chelsea man won’t be that easy.

Le Parisien reported back in March that Antero Henrique, the Ligue 1 champions’ director of football, had met with the Blues’ goalkeeper in February, although the Belgium international ‘reserved his response for the moment’.

That’s now changed, and we’re not sure if it’s got anything to do with RMC Sport’s report a couple of weeks ago, but the same newspaper now state Courtois is ‘open to the Parisian proposition’, even if he would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

On PSG’s list are also Jan Oblak and Alisson, but not Gianluigi Donnarumma, despite Mino Raiola offering him, who they feel is a little bit inexperienced at European level for their taste.

However, it appears the decision to buy a new goalkeeper will entirely rest on Thomas Tuchel, who is said to be currently analysing the French club’s last few games to see if he requires someone else between the sticks.

If he does, then that gives Henrique the green light to start putting measures in place to try and get one of the aforementioned three, Financial Fair Play restraints permitting.

Were Chelsea’s demands of around €100m (that seems a bit much for a player who has just one year left on his deal) prove to be too expensive, the Ligue 1 side might have to look at strengthening other areas of the pitch instead.

So, all in all, it’s bad news and good news for the Stamford Bridge faithful.

PSG want Courtois, but they might not be able to afford him.
