In his first season during the second spell at Chelsea, David Luiz featured regularly under Antonio Conte, but lost his place during the last campaign.
It looked liked the Brazilian’s time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end, but the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as Conte’s successor in the summer has seen the 31-year-old regain his place in the starting lineup and he’s made 17 starts in the league this term.
He will turn 32 before the end of the season and that is when the central defender’s current deal will run down.
Italian website Tutto Mercato Web has provided the update on the former Paris Saint-Germain man’s contract situation at the west London club.
It’s claimed the Blues are ready to extend his deal by one more year, which is in line with Chelsea’s policy of handing only a year extension to players above 30.
Unfortunately, the offer made by the Premier League outfit ‘does not convince’ Luiz and if things do not improve in the coming months, the Chelsea star could be heading for the exit as a free agent.
