When a club is close to losing a star, we normally see them targeting a replacement and waiting for the player to leave so they can continue with the plan.
But it seems things are happening in a different order at Chelsea, at least according to today’s edition of Marca.
The Spanish newspaper claims that the only thing left for Real Madrid and the Blues to close the deal for Thibaut Courtois is for the London side to announce a new goalkeeper first.
That’s when Chelsea will let the Belgian international leave for the Galacticos, in a deal which Marca say has been agreed for a while now.
According to the claims, Chelsea have been working to sign a goalkeeper for days now. Even though they lost Alisson to Liverpool, Kasper Schmeichel and Petr Cech would be other options, and even some ‘surprises’ could be the solution.
The outlet makes it clear that Real Madrid, Courtois and Chelsea have all agreed about the move, with the Blues avoiding losing the player for free when his contract expires next year.
So while Courtois enjoys his vacations in Tenerife, he waits for the Blues to sign a new goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s desire would be to announce the Belgian before the squad travels to the United States for their preseason tour.
