A week ago we covered a report from Corriere della Sera which stated Maurizio Sarri was a ‘step away’ from Chelsea and Gianfranco Zola would be his assistant at the Premier League club.

Since then that story has spread wider and it really does feel it could come to fruition.

The same story stated Chelsea could end up signing some Napoli players as part of their deal with the Italian club, and Raul Albiol was one of those named.

Now CalcioNapoli24 have an update on Albiol and say Chelsea are prepared to pay €6m to sign the 32 year old. The €6m comes from a clause the Spaniard has in his Napoli contract.

It’s claimed Chelsea and Villarreal have both contacted the player’s entourage to express their willingness to meet the €6m clause, and the clubs have also put offers to the player.

It’s now said to be up to the central defender to decide what he wants to do. The player is both tempted by returning to Spain and teaming up with Sarri again.
