As AS Monaco came to the end of their season, Tiémoué Bakayoko was one of the players wanted most by fans of Premier League clubs. However, despite many insisting they’d been watching him at Monaco all season, a poor performance for France seemed to change everything.

Bakayoko wasn’t as fashionable any longer. And it spread.

Therefore, when French newspaper L’Equipe reported earlier this month that Bakayoko had chosen Chelsea over both Manchester clubs, fans of the latter were spitting feathers.

Of course, they and their club had never had even the remotest bit of interest, so there was no way he could ‘pick’ Chelsea, because he wouldn’t have had the choice of the other two.

It’s an odd transfer world.

Anyway, Bakayoko is edging closer to Chelsea, a club L’Equipe say he’s chosen because he’s very fond of Antonio Conte, although it probably has as much to do with the London lifestyle.

In a Saturday article it’s claimed that Monaco are set to sell the player to Chelsea for around €50m including bonuses. L’Equipe then break the figures down, as far as they can, and say Chelsea’s latest offer is around €42-44m plus bonuses, although the specifics of the latter are yet to be discussed.

Talks, and specifically final talks, are expected to be concluded favourably by the middle of next week at the latest. Personal terms aren’t yet completely finalised.

Back to the Manchester clubs, L’Equipe say Bakayoko had a long hesitation, he really considered Manchester United. It’s likely to be that hesitation which irritated Chelsea at one point, but when pressured he plumped for Stamford Bridge.
