Chelsea are ‘busy’ working to try and lure RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano to the club this summer.

That’s according to Kicker, who say their interest has come courtesy of new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Upamecano is widely expected to leave Leipzig this summer, having established himself as one of the best centre backs in Europe during his time with the club.

He has a release clause worth around €40M that will activate in the summer transfer window, a fact that the top sides in Europe are more than aware of.

Several have already been linked with a move, with Bayern Munich thought to be leading the race as they try and find a replacement for David Alaba.

There is apparently interest in the Premier League too, though, with Bayern CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge recently stating that Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen.

Kicker back that up somewhat today, at least in terms of the Blues, stating they are ‘still busy in the market’ when it comes to Upamecano.

Now what that means isn’t exactly clear, but we’re reading it as the Blues are still trying to lure the defender to Stamford Bridge and beat Bayern to his signature.

The German champions, for their part, are said to have ‘good prospects’ of signing the French star, which is presumably why Chelsea are still having to put some legwork in.

Either way, at this moment in time it appears to be very much a two-way battle between the two clubs, although on this evidence Bayern are slightly ahead.
