Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story regarding Milan’s interest in Olivier Giroud.
The Chelsea player appears to be heading towards free agency come the end of June, as the veteran goalscorer finds himself facing the prospect of finding a new club.
The Serie A side were reportedly keen on him, and Gazzetta dello Sport made it sound like the player was on his way out.
That’s because there didn’t seem to be a new contract on the horizon, but Vincenzo Morabito, an intermediary for Olivier Giroud (not his agent), spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss and revealed what was going on behind the scenes.
He said, relayed by FC Inter News: “Olivier can come to Italy, although Chelsea are trying to renew him, but there is still nothing concrete. We will see what happens with Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku: if they leave AS Roma and Inter, Giroud could go to Italy”.
It seems Milan aren’t part of the equation as of yet, although that could easily change depending on what happens on the final day of the season.
A win from Stefano Pioli’s side against Atalanta would guarantee them Champions League football, which would, in turn, make them a more enticing destination.
Either way, the main information to take from all this is that Chelsea are trying to keep Giroud an extra season, but with few minutes on offer at Stamford Bridge these days, perhaps it might be time to look elsewhere.
