With West Ham playing hardball regarding the loan of Sofiane Feghouli, AS Roma are having to look at alternatives as they attempt to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.
The main alternative, which has been the case for quite some time, is Charly Musonda Jr. at Chelsea.
The young Belgian’s first loan of the season saw him spend a very complicated few months at Betis in Spain, hampered by injuries and managerial changes, before a return to Antonio Conte’s side was decided.
Various reports over the past week suggested Roma were in constant contact with the personnel at Stamford Bridge, but it seems the possibility of a transfer is now growing colder by the minute.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti, the Serie A side’s manager, isn’t all that keen on Chelsea’s young Belgian, as he doesn’t believe him capable of making an impact in bigger games, like the one they just played against Udinese at the weekend.
The manager made it clear the player’s lack of experience was a problem, making the situation ‘not simple’.
Roma want someone who can slot right in, and Musonda isn’t that man.
With the Chelsea option complicated, the Italian club need to figure out what to do, as Sofiane Feghouli seems as unlikely to come as Charly Musonda Jr.
Jesé remains an option, but his preference to return to Spain with Las Palmas is another obstacle they will have to overcome.
