With Chelsea well on their way to signing Kendra Páez from Independiente della Valle, the 15-year-old will have his next big move sorted soon.

The young Ecuador U17 international has been hyped as the next best thing to come out of South America, and the Blues have acted early.

That appears to be the kind of transfer Todd Boehly likes to do at Chelsea these days, wanting to bring together a team of players with high potential for long-term success. Whether it works remains to be seen, we’ll have to wait and see, but there are some who are very excited about Páez, including Carlos Tenorio in an interview with Olé Ecuador.

The retired footballer had a lot to say about the future Chelsea player, with that transfer expected to be made official ‘in the coming weeks’, and didn’t hold back with his praise, going as far as making some very bold claims.

Asked if Kendry reminded him of anyone, he said: “No player or human being likes comparisons. I can tell you Messi is an extraordinary player because he’s left-footed, Kendry is an extraordinary player because he’s left-footed, but Kendry has a little more mischief there, wisdom in the dribbling part and everything, but we can’t say that either looks like Messi.

“Kendry is Ecuadorian and that already has to make us happy. He has everything to be better than Leo Messi, better than Neymar himself, but it depends on him and those of us around him.”
