If someone buys a sports newspaper in Portugal today, we’re pretty sure this person will find a story about Chelsea’s pursuit for Pepê, regardless of the chosen outlet.
That’s because we can find three different stories about this subject, as A Bola, Record and O Jogo are all talking about the Blues’ latest efforts to sign the player.
Starting with the first, A Bola claims that the Porto winger entered Chelsea’s radar ‘in recent days’, as their scouts were ‘impressed’ with his recent performances.
That’s why the Blues got in touch both with the player’s representatives and with Dragons’ president Pinto Da Costa, trying to gather more information regarding a potential summer move.
According to A Bola, Chelsea are aware that Porto will not let Pepê move for less than €70m, which is the price for his release clause.
Meanwhile, newspaper Record also claims the Stamford Bridge side were the ‘most recent club’ to make ‘exploratory contacts’ for the signing.
There, it’s also claimed the Blues were told he’d cost €70m.
The outlet points out how big that amount is, but also claims that with the ‘craziness of the days before the end of the transfer window’, there’s a possibility ‘in the air’ that Chelsea could end up taking the player to the Premier League.
Finally, O Jogo is another one saying Thomas Tuchel’s side got in touch with Porto to know about Pepê’s situation, and also talks about his €70m release clause.
The Dragons are said to be very focused on keeping him, especially because of the short time to find a replacement, and are unlikely to give away any discounts.
So if Chelsea really want the Brazilian, they already know how much they need to spend, and that won’t be cheap.
