Over the weekend, we covered a story from L’Equipe claiming that Presnel Kimpembe, Paris Saint-Germain’s exciting young defender, had asked to meet Nasser Al-Khelaifi about his stalled contract renewal.
The 21-year-old’s current deal runs out in 2018, and everyone involved appears to want him to sign apart from the player himself.
Well, in an interview with Onze Mondial published on Monday, the youngster explains exactly what went on regarding that alleged Chelsea interest, what is going on and what will be happening in his Paris Saint-Germain career.
Starting with the past, the player revealed he did think about leaving in the summer, with reported offers from Antonio Conte’s side and Saint-Etienne, but was convinced otherwise.
He said: “I thought about it. What made me stay? Firstly, my family advice. Then I thought about it, and decided to stay. Speaking with the manager and the staff reassured me. The fact that I am playing helped too.”
As for the contract negotiations, the player explained contract negotiations are indeed ongoing, but that he’s ‘still waiting’.
However, Chelsea, who were interested very briefly, and fans of other clubs shouldn’t get too excited about a potential transfer because when asked if he was thinking about leaving, his answer was plain and simple: “No.”
In fact, the player went as far to say further down the interview: “I’m here for 10 years, all my career even.”
That’s that for now, then. No Stamford Bridge move in the near future.
